How can being tied to a culture be detrimental to a person

Being tied to a culture can be detrimental to a person because then they will not be         See the source imagerespected properly. In the Oka Crisis the Mohawk people of Kanehsatake got no respect from the town of Oka because they are tied to a culture. Oka didn't care what they were doing to the Mohawks land because the town of Oka thought they were useless and meant to be controlled. The Mohawks where forced to leave there house just because they lived on their own land, the land Oka wanted for a golf course. This event impacted the Mohawks way of living and chance of survival because the Mohawks were getting killed just because of their culture and land. many people tried to sand up and fight this issue but it always resulted in the Mohawks getting sent to jail. What ever the Mohawks did it always ended up in a failure because the Mohawks are different then most people. This culture impacted Adults, Kids and Family's, if they had a Mohawk last name then the police would talk to them and possibly kill them, if they had a French Canadian last name then they didn't have to talk to any of the police. Having a Mohawk last name could change these peoples whole life for the worse. They could of either been sent to jail or would of been shot and killed, both ways are life changing and life ending. All because the Mohawks were raised differently then others. Which leads to being taken control of and being over powered by Oka.

Waneek Horn-Miller was a kid when this happened and she experienced this whole issue right before her eyes. Waneek was with her little sister and she tried to get her to safety but they wouldn't let Waneek do that so they hit her to the ground and wanted her sister to go on the bus. Waneek was scared and in a huge amount of pain. No one listened to Waneek because of her culture, she ended up going to the hospital and left with a huge scare.

In conclusion being tied to a culture impacts you in a negative way and could possibly ruin your life.
